London Day 2

Cheerio Mates! Today we were up and at it early. We were ready to go by 10:00 . . . ok, so we slept in. We ate breakfast at a quaint cafe call the MuffinMan, walking distance to from our Hotel.English BreakfastIt was Lovely. Tea and crumpets, english toast, bangers and beans. And because it was a chilly day, hot chocolate. One thing we are liking about London are the prices. Everywhere we go, things are decently priced. Today was a chilly day. Although summer, it was definitely warm jacket weather.

The Tower of London

After breakfast we took the underground to the Tower of London. This large castle was built in 1066 AD by William the Conqueror. A part of the castle holds the armory of kings and soldiers thatThe White tower within the castle are hundreds of years old. It is also where you can see the Crowned Jewels – Crowns, orbs and staffs from royalty past and present covered in Gold and Jewels. Interesting fact: Greg’s ancestor was the last person beheaded here at the Castle. Sir. Simon “the fox” Fraser.  Look him up.

The Spectacular Tower of London

IMG_2212Another part of the castle called the Bloody Tower was where the two sons of  Edward IV were held by their uncle Richard III when their father died. Richard III wanted the kingdom for himself but would never be king with his nephews alive so he locked them in the tower and they were never seen again (most likely Richard III had them killed) their bodies were found hundreds of years later buried in a trunk. Richard III ruled as king for 2 years and then died.Behind me you'll find the Tower of London Bridge

Water Taxi/Churchill War Rooms

Next we caught a water Taxi to the other side of the city and found ourselves at the Churchill War Rooms. This is where Winston Churchill secretly worked underground planning and leading during WWII. We saw where he and others slept, ate, had meetings and secret phone conversations with Roosevelt. This has been my favorite thing we’ve done so far.

A Hallway in the BunkersIMG_2232

When we were done touring the underground War Rooms were were pretty hungry so went onward to Scarsdale Tavern near our hotel where I had lamb and potatoes and Greg had Steak & Ale Pie. It was very delicious.

Cheers!
